(Still) Alive and Kickin’

Well hello!

Yes I’m still very much alive. VERY much alive.  My little dude wants my undivided attention most of the time and when I’m not with him, I’m at work.  So basically, I’m indisposed 24 hours a day.  So busy that I haven’t even stripped the pee-soaked sheets off the bed yet.  However, I could be changing those sheets rather than blogging….which would you choose? I’ll get to it some time today.

Lately neither one of us has been very impressed with the food around here.  I can’t blame him for not wanting dinner when I don’t want it either.  I admit it, I eat too healthy, don’t salt my dishes enough…..my stuff is just plain boring.  Pinterest came to the rescue!  I needed something fast and delicious and that is what I got.

Creamy Salsa Verde Chicken foil pack.

I followed the recipe close enough. First off, I skipped the rice.  Not to cut calories or anything but quite frankly, I’m not a fan of rice.  I’m only a fan of it when it’s in my sushi.

Since I skipped the rice, I didn’t think I had to follow the weight of the chicken and cooking time so closely….and for once I was correct!  Given my track record with straying from a recipe when cooking, I was expecting a disaster.  Never happened.  *happy dance*

No rice, huge 11 oz pieces of chicken, sealed in the packet (with all listed ingredients) and cook for 40 minutes at 400*.

Holy crap this was good.  Why B wasn’t as crazy about it as I was blows me away.  Sometimes I think he doesn’t have taste buds.  Long story short, I ate almost all of it.  In 3 sittings.  *burp*

I MUST add that I was able to fit half a foil pack in my macros for dinner.  SCORE!

I used to have 2 desks in my home office and since becoming a Ma, my office now serves as my office/play room. No room for that 2nd table anymore.  So the hubs sawed the legs off the table to make it short enough to B.  A simple fix makes my man a genius.  I never would have thought to do that.  (Husband needs to be on flea market flip?)

Of course the table is mostly used as a step stool to get up in the bay window.  Not my favorite but I let him every once in awhile when I’m in the room.  Plus, how adorable does he look watching his daddy work on the truck??

My latest hobby is making to-do lists.  I love that satisfied feeling you get when you mark something off your list (and pray it doesn’t make its way back on).  I even enjoy buying the cute paper I write my to-do list on!  There is NO way I can function without it and anyone who says they can is lying.  Or sans kids.

Speaking of which, need to get started on that list.  Just crossed off number 1; “drink coffee”.

Fun in the sun…..briefly

Ahhhhhh……mommy (and B) just got back from a quick trip down to Miami to see my best friend and it also just so happened to be Wodapalooza.  This trip was a surprise for my BFF which is not something that I tend to do.  A plane ticket for a surprise trip?  A bit unnerving for me BUUUUUUT it was so worth it!  The look on her face when she saw us I’ll never forget!

Spent 3 days eating Cuban food, drinking incredibly strong coffee and espresso and taking in the sunshine.  Stopped by Wodapalooza and chatted with Christmas Abbott and may I say that she is a sweet woman, totally down to earth!  Boy was I nervous!  Felt like a kid again.  Of course I looked like a kid too wearing my oversized overalls.  Hey, don’t knock it.  They are comfy and keep me cool.  Could probably use a new pair seeing how I have had these since my junior year in high school.  (Let me remind you that I am now 37)

I tend to workout on vacation but depends on what I’m doing.  Honeymoon?  Nope.  Christmas in Florida?  Yes.  Surprise visit to Shai?  Maybe.  So ONE evening before we popped a bottle of wine, I convinced Shai do “99 Problems”.  She didn’t like me for about 30 minutes but got over it quickly.  After all, I flew all the way down there to surprise her!

Buy-in: 85 burpees (they were on day 16 of a burpee challenge)

“99 Problems”
99 air squats
88 abmat situps
77 good mornings with KB (it was a light one, can’t remember weight)
66 double unders
55 pushups
44 ball slams 20#
33 hang power clean 45# bar
22 push press 45# bar
11 I can’t remember!!!
1 burpee with an enthusiastic clap

This was done outside at nighttime so it was pretty nice.  It wasn’t too hot down there but we were having too much fun during the day.

So when I got home, I got right back into my gym routine.  My CrossFit membership is officially over.  I’ll admit, I’m worried that I will lose my cardio from those WODs. I am not a very good self motivator.  Yes I can get myself to the gym, but I can’t motivate myself to push hard when I’m the only one doing it.  Hopefully I will surprise myself and that will change.

So as you can see from the blurry picture below, I was tired.  HA!  Didn’t realize that until just now when I posted it.  Maybe I should wait a little before I take the picture.

I have been following The Outlaw Way programming for the most part.  Still having to modify some of the movements either because A) I can’t do it (muscle ups) or B) I have no place to do it (handstand push ups).

And, I’m out.  The laundry won’t fold itself!

Coffee and the Winter Blues

More snow in the forecast.  Really?!  I guess at this point, what does it matter?  Seeing how it’s 0* outside, I’m staying in anyway.  If this keeps up, I’m not joining my Mommy and Me running group the last Sunday of February.

I definitely have the winter blues.  I have been getting myself out of the house a little bit better lately so I’m getting over Cabin Fever.  I met up with a few of my mommy friends and as horrible as it sounds, it’s comforting knowing that they are struggling just as I am.  Am I awful?

So this week I was able to workout 4 times (so far) and I’m happy about that.  Guess what else I found?  The harder I workout, the better my milk comes in.  Open “bar” for B!!

Seeing how the Open is upon us, we have been throwing some old Open WODs into the mix.  Now just need to find my old times and see how I compare.  (And no I am not signing up this year)

On 2/11 we did Isabel.  Having been doing CrossFit for over 6 years, I know I’ve done it before but cannot find my old time.  So I guess this is my PR until I find it.  Couldn’t do the 95#.  I can lift 95# but not 30 times.

Everyone who knows me, knows I love mint.  Especially peppermint bark.  Whenever I go visit my sister, she tends to have the peppermint bark coffee creamer in her fridge.  Boy, do I do HAM on that stuff!  Well, imagine how excited I was when I found this peppermint bark coffee at Marshalls.  And yes, I bought them out.  Much healthier than adding the creamer although the creamer DOES taste better.

Take that and shove it….up your nose

I cannot seem to warm up around these parts so you can be for damn sure I’m not going running!  Can’t remember if I mentioned it earlier but I have started to incorporate CrossFit Endurance into my WOD.  Since I refuse to run in this weather, I am doing rowing drills instead.  Once the mercury gets above 35* then I will consider hitting the pavement again.

But for now, FORGET IT!

It’s Thursday and I have gotten 3 workouts in.  That makes me a happy Mamma.  On top of that, I’m doing a 10-day cleanse so I’m feeling pretty good!  For 10 days no dairy, no caffeine, no alcohol and no sugar.  Not too bad.  I’m missing coffee right now only because I’m cold.  Not because I’m tired.  I tried sipping on hot water with lemon.  Gag.  Anyone who says they enjoy that is lying!  Throw a few spoons of honey in there and then we’ll talk.

Notice that PR?  That totally made my morning.  Last time I did a 5000m row was around October and I got 23:36.  I was aiming for 23:00 and to my surprise, 21:28!  I’ll aim for 21 next time and we will see what happens.

Made a discovery yesterday, with the pellet stove running 24/7, the air in this house is D.R.Y.  So of course my nose is paying the price.  Painful, cracked and dry.  Even bloody at times.  TMI, I know…but it’s MY blog!  Before I got in bed last, took a little bit of coconut oil and stuck it right up my nose.  No joke.  Seemed to do the trick.

Speaking of which, I could use some more right now.

Stay warm!!

Poorly dressed and don’t care. At least my salad tasted good!

So this morning I was running out the door without my coffee or my shirt. Yeah, you read that right, my shirt. I forgot to tell my husband to wake me up when he wakes up. The past week B won’t sleep without me so I am in his room…without my “special” alarm clock. Special because it shakes the bed. Needless to say, I got up at 7 and had to be out the door by 735am.

So I got up, packed B’s bag, cleaned up after the dogs, fed the dogs, let the dogs out, brushed my teeth, fed and got B dressed, ate breakfast then made a sorry attempt to dress myself. Over-sized sweatpants with a button up cardigan over a nursing bra. Before you say to yourself, “that’s not so bad”; this cardigan doesn’t exactly stay buttoned up. More than half the time I looked down, I was exposed. Ah hell.

Didn’t make it to the box either. How could I? If I don’t get something in today, I hope the rest of the week will go as planned.

Because today is the first day of the 28 day challenge and I want to WIN dammit!! I’ll admit, I don’t even remember what the prizes are for the top 3 finishers BUT in the end we are all winners. I’ve gained some knowledge from my nutritionist and on day one, I’m feeling pretty good! Although I do have to pee as much as I did when I was pregnant due to having to drink half my body weight in ounces.

I’m 162#. You do the math.

The Sweat
The “buy in” for this challenge is
3 rounds of:
30 wall ball (14#)
30 box jumps (20″)
Run 400m

I finished in 16:38

Let’s see if I am any faster at the end of 28 days

This delicious looking spinach salad was a part of my new meal plan. Nice change of pace putting fresh, ripe, “picked right off the tree” juicy peaches!  I need to go pick some more!

And this is one of my snack options that i am trying to make myself like.  I’m not a fan of plain greek yogurt, nor am I fan of blueberries.  Tart and tart….with an occasional sweet overripe blueberry.  I figure I’ll learn to like it like I did black coffee.

Coffee Nana Smoothie

Happy Thursday!

I’m surprised I know what day it is since I’ve been on maternity leave since 3/28. Little man and I have a plane to catch tomorrow which is why I know today is Thursday. Once I get on that plane I can forget what day it is again. Ah, the joys of vacation!

Little man had me up at 2am last night for a midnight snack. He doesn’t do that too often but when he does, I can sure feel it in the morning. This would be when most reach for a cup of coffee but I started drinking decaf when I got pregnant and haven’t gone back to the regular stuff. I save the caffeine for when I really need it…probably when I go back to work. But honestly, I’d rather get my caffeine from chocolate!

As I’m babbling along with him and changing his diaper my mind is preoccupied with what I’m going to have for breakfast. I think about food constantly. Always thinking about what I’m going to eat that day. Since I’m tired, hungry and hot, I decided to put my coffee in a smoothie. Got my little ninja blender out and went to town!

Coffee Nana Smoothie
1/2 cup cooled coffee
1/2 cup milk (1/2C 1/2P)
1/2 frozen banana (1C)
1/2 scoop chocolate protein power (1P)
2 Tblsp avocado (2F)
sprinkle of chia seeds (1/2C)
ice cubes

Blend everything together and enjoy!

This is a 2-block smoothie according to the macros of the brands I was using. Yours might be different. Yes I realize I still owe you a Zone write up, but if you are already following Zone, then this is a 2-blocker for you to try.

(C = carb, F = fat, P = protein)

Tomorrow I’ll be catching my first flight with my Little Man back home to see my family. Wish me luck!!
