Fun in the sun…..briefly

Ahhhhhh……mommy (and B) just got back from a quick trip down to Miami to see my best friend and it also just so happened to be Wodapalooza.  This trip was a surprise for my BFF which is not something that I tend to do.  A plane ticket for a surprise trip?  A bit unnerving for me BUUUUUUT it was so worth it!  The look on her face when she saw us I’ll never forget!

Spent 3 days eating Cuban food, drinking incredibly strong coffee and espresso and taking in the sunshine.  Stopped by Wodapalooza and chatted with Christmas Abbott and may I say that she is a sweet woman, totally down to earth!  Boy was I nervous!  Felt like a kid again.  Of course I looked like a kid too wearing my oversized overalls.  Hey, don’t knock it.  They are comfy and keep me cool.  Could probably use a new pair seeing how I have had these since my junior year in high school.  (Let me remind you that I am now 37)

I tend to workout on vacation but depends on what I’m doing.  Honeymoon?  Nope.  Christmas in Florida?  Yes.  Surprise visit to Shai?  Maybe.  So ONE evening before we popped a bottle of wine, I convinced Shai do “99 Problems”.  She didn’t like me for about 30 minutes but got over it quickly.  After all, I flew all the way down there to surprise her!

Buy-in: 85 burpees (they were on day 16 of a burpee challenge)

“99 Problems”
99 air squats
88 abmat situps
77 good mornings with KB (it was a light one, can’t remember weight)
66 double unders
55 pushups
44 ball slams 20#
33 hang power clean 45# bar
22 push press 45# bar
11 I can’t remember!!!
1 burpee with an enthusiastic clap

This was done outside at nighttime so it was pretty nice.  It wasn’t too hot down there but we were having too much fun during the day.

So when I got home, I got right back into my gym routine.  My CrossFit membership is officially over.  I’ll admit, I’m worried that I will lose my cardio from those WODs. I am not a very good self motivator.  Yes I can get myself to the gym, but I can’t motivate myself to push hard when I’m the only one doing it.  Hopefully I will surprise myself and that will change.

So as you can see from the blurry picture below, I was tired.  HA!  Didn’t realize that until just now when I posted it.  Maybe I should wait a little before I take the picture.

I have been following The Outlaw Way programming for the most part.  Still having to modify some of the movements either because A) I can’t do it (muscle ups) or B) I have no place to do it (handstand push ups).

And, I’m out.  The laundry won’t fold itself!

“12 Days of Christmas”

Daycare was closed today….and more than half my team was off for the holidays so it was incredibly quiet at work.  B and I were getting restless and I was running out of ideas to do to keep him occupied.  He was outplayed with play dough.  Had enough Legos.  Wasn’t even slightly interested in his indoor trampoline.  Then it occurred to me to modify the “12 Days of Christmas” WOD that everyone and their grandmother was posting on IG and FB.

B and I giggled for the 30-something minutes it took me to do this.  Definitely would have gone faster if I wasn’t chasing him around. Heck, he made it more fun!  Granted, it was near impossible for me to do pushups when he flopped himself on my back but we were both laughing!

By the 10th,  I was sweating a bit harder than I had expected.  Will definitely do variations of this with B in the future.

For the ab mat situps, B was actually hugging me so those were a bit harder.  For the chair dips, he was elsewhere.  Pushups and the plank, he climbed on top of me, as expected.

*disclaimer – if you are going to be swinging a kettlebell around  your kids, BE CAREFUL!  If they are hugging your leg, put the KB down and do something else, like goblet squats.

Not very happy with Punxsutawney Phil

We still have quite a bit of snow around here. An annoying mix of cabin fever and winter blues are hitting and it didn’t help that the damn groundhog predicts another 6 weeks of winter. Normally I love winter but this one is definitely different….as was expected. Even though I expected it, doesn’t mean I know how to handle it.

Even though I have my new Bob jogger, still can’t take the little guy out. There are no sidewalks. Almost solid ice out there and the shoulder has about 3+ feet of snow. Pass.

Even though I have my snowshoes, can’t take the little guy snowshoeing. Not so much the cold weather…..well, yes the cold weather doesn’t help. But I’m much more likely to fall over snowshoeing while carrying B. Not a good idea.

So today was the first day that we made it to Mommy and Me Bootcamp. The only reason they held class today was because we have a storm coming tomorrow. Mommy and Me tends to be on during the week. Not something us full time working mammas can pull off that easily.

It was a great time! It took place at the mall before the stores opened so we had plenty of room to move around. Started at the stairs then we did floor exercises near the end of the wing where our babes couldn’t run away. Different plank exercises, pushups, lunges, running, high knees, sit-ups, bridges, you name it. B enjoyed watching everyone too.

We will be back. Once I figure out how.

Otherwise, if this snow keeps coming down at the rate it is, I will have to keep doing body weight movements in the office. It’s not fun. But at least I’m moving!

Managed to get a TABATA in earlier this week.  B was loving on my abmat and wasn’t too happy when I took it away so I can workout.  So I always try to get him involved in what I do.  So if I’m doing sit-ups, I sit him on my stomach facing me.  Unfortunately he only enjoys it for about a minute.

(TABATA is 20 seconds of work then a 10 second rest x 8 rounds.  So in other words, 4 minutes for each movement)

Last weeks WODs.  I forgot to write one down and I cannot for the life of me remember what it was.  I only have enough room up there to remember the important stuff.  Like how to change a diaper and drive a car.
